Dan interviews brothers David and Daniel Holechek about their debut feature film 305.
1. As I hoped I’ve made clear to you guys, I loved this film. Besides 300 and The Office, was Mel Brooks an influence?
Mel Brooks was definitely an influence in the approach we took
with ‘305′. When we looked around at other films in this genre, there
really wasn’t anything recent that we liked so we kept going back to
things like ‘Spaceballs’ and "Robin Hood" Men in Tights’. I think
what we enjoyed about those films is their attempt to tell their own
story as well as their ability to be consistently funny. We hoped get
somewhere close to that level of quality.
2. Is it fair to call this a spoof film? What I liked about your film so much is that it wasn’t REALLY a spoof of the actual structure of 300 because it had its own independent story… its almost kind of a sequel, right?
Host Dan Schechter interviews guest Chris Eigeman (Star of BARCELONA, KICKING AND SCREAMING & THE TREATMENT) about his award-winning, directorial debut TURN THE RIVER (starring Famke Janssen and Rip Torn). The film will be released in NY May 9th and LA May 16th.
The Two Discuss:
- Bringing home the bacon at this years Hamptons International Film Festival where Famke won Best Acting and Eigeman won Best Screenplay honors (respectively).
- Starring in some of Dan’s favorite movies ever, including the famous Whit Stilman Trilogy, and Noah Baumbach’s earlier films.
- Sure Famke Janssen can shoot pool like a pro, but can she act? (scratch that, reverse it).
- What the future holds for this kick-ass film and its sarcastic auteur.
-And More!

Host Dan Schechter interviews guests Judson Pearce Morgan & Kelly Overton about their co-writing/directing debut feature THE COLLECTIVE (premiering at this year’s Vail Film Festival.)
THE COLLECTIVE Q and A with Judson Pearce Morgan and Kelly Overton
Judson: Since Kelly (my co-director) is on location and I’m in LA right now, I’ll answer these questions and then pass them on to Kelly to attach her comments.
RFP: So where did the idea for The Collective come from?
JUDSON: For years I had been intrigued by the story behind the cathedral on 6th Ave and 22nd street. It’s the one that became the Limelight, then a few other clubs, most recently I think it was called Avalon. It’s infamous for some particularly wild times in the late 80’s. We started wondering how a place of worship, a sacred space like that, become a club? What kind of spiritual residue was left there? And in what form, good or evil? At the same time we found ourselves in conversation after conversation with other New Yorkers about all these new religions that seem to be popping up. We explored many ideas, but I would say that it was a mix of these two things that got us started.
Host Daniel Schechter interviews guest Randall Cole (Writer/Director, REAL TIME, 19 MONTHS) after this year’s 2008 Slamdance Film Festival.
Okay, so as I’ve told you (and I’m repeating it here for the public at large) your film was my favorite at Park City this year. Hat’s off. What’s the film about?
Thanks. Very simply - It’s about a hitman who gives a gambler he’s been hired to kill one hour to live.
Host Dan Schechter has himself his first written podcast with guest Tom Stern (Writer/Director/Producer of THIS IS A BUSINESS.)
Tom’s film is now available on indiepix and can be viewed RIGHT NOW!! Click here!
Everyone’s favorite question: What’s your movie about?
THIS IS A BUSINESS is about a shipping clerk with loftier ambitions who decides to start his own business knowing only that he will either create a product or provide a service and “whatever it is, it will be good… for everyone.”
It’s an off-beat comedy. But it also has a little weight to it as well. Or I just flatter myself to think I made something meaningful.
